Who is Jesus?

At Redemption Church, everything we do is about pointing people to Jesus Christ and His Word. Because Jesus is central to our teaching, discipleship, and evangelism, it is vital that we are all on the same page as to the identity of Christ.

So, who exactly is Jesus?

Jesus is Fully God

For starters, it is crucial to recognize that Jesus is not just a good man and moral teacher. He claimed to be not just another Jewish prophet, but the Son of God Himself. This claim radically changes everything - if Jesus really is the Son of God, He must be trusted and obeyed.

Jesus is Fully Man

In addition to being the Son of God, Jesus is also fully and truly man. He was born of the Virgin Mary and lived a real life in human body a little over two thousand years ago. However, while Jesus was made like us in every respect, He did not sin, and lived in perfect obedience toward the will of God.

Jesus is the Substitutionary Sacrifice

Ultimately, Jesus came to earth to save His people. He did not do this by establishing a military or political empire, but by dying on a Roman cross on a hill outside of Jerusalem. He took the place of sinners and His sacrificial death appeased the wrath of God and provided full forgiveness of sin for those who would trust in Him.

Jesus is the Risen, Reigning, & Retuning King

While the death of Jesus is massively important, it was meaningless if He stayed dead in the grave. Thankfully, Jesus rose from the dead three days later, defeating sin, Satan, and death! And not only that, Jesus is reigning now at God’s right hand and will one day come again to rid the world of evil and suffering once and for all. After this, He will establish His eternal kingdom in the New Creation, where believers will reign with Him forever.
